the bends
radiohead

people keep talking about kid a, but my favorite radiohead album by far is the bends. with such gems as "high & dry" and "fake plastic trees," this album is consistently the rockingest. that's not a word, but if it were.

also listening to:
beth orton central reservation, grandaddy sophtware slump, pavement terror twilight, liz phair whitechocolatespaceegg, travis the man who, yo la tengo and then nothing turned itself inside out, sarah mclachlan mirrorball, ivy apartment life, magnolia soundtrack, mojave 3 out of tune, radiohead kid a, that dog retreat from the sun

fight club
i've been warned about this movie far too many times to care. ("oh, well you're a girl so you might not like it.") i started watching it a few weeks ago and loved it. unfortunately, i was interrupted and didn't get to finish it. i will, though.

want to see:
billy elliott, girlfight, i'm the one that i want and requiem for a dream.

interpreter of the maladies
jhumpa lahiri
this pulitzer prize winning collection of short stories sneaks up on you. lahiri's writing is subtle and graceful, and each tale is original and clever, yet painfully familiar. you must read it.

next on my reading list:
i need to once and for all finish the akiko comicbooks adam lent me.

the dailies
jorge colombo

looking through these illustrations makes you feel as though you are standing at a busy new york street corner watching everyone pass by. yes, they really are that good.

coin purse
by queen bee creations

i adore cute handmade things! really, like this sewn leather coin purse by rebecca pearcy. she also makes wonderfully nifty bags (yes i know i have too many bags, but i really want the truckette bag with clear window), wallets, belts and journals. although i'm not sure about the kitty hats.

other handmade goodness:
two girls & a garage, fluffco store and pisces catalog.

tokyo delves
marina del rey
so, andre and i walk up to this place thinking, "ah, we'll have a nice dinner of delicious sushi and good conversation." we open the door, and instead are greeted by howling and 80s music and disco lights. scary? yes. fun, all the same? well, of course.

out-of-town dining:
in new york, i went to a few fabulous restaurants: cafe lalo, odeon and a vietnamese hole-in-the-wall whose name i can't recall. i also ate ethiopian food, ravioli and lots and lots of pizza. oh! and a slice of lemon cheesecake. simply divine.
