brighten the corners
pavement

ever since i had to give steve back the copy he graciously lent me, i've been craving the band's sound. so imagine my joy when i found it brand new at cd trader for $8.99. songs like "shady lane" make me happy, although bryan said it's about the end of the world.

also listening to:
oliva tremor control black foliage, vol. 1, pavement crooked rain, crooked rain, good dog bad dog over the rhine, ani difranco living in clip, disc 1 liz phair whitechocolatespaceegg, belle & sebastian fold your hands child, you walk like a peasant, travis the man who, spiritualized ladies and gentleman, we are floating in space, radiohead the bends, ben lee something to remember me by, ivy apartment life,

almost famous
based loosely on cameron crowe's adventures as a high school kid in the '70s writing for rolling stone magazine, this film is touching, inspiring and entertaining--it also stars such hotties (for lack of better word) as billy crudup and jason lee. if you're a boy, kate hudson and fairuza balk are cute, too.

recently viewed on TV:
girl, you've got mail, men, random hearts, and the real world, of course. ah, cable.

notes from the underground
fyodor dostoevsky
i've been meaning to read this for quite some time now, and i finally got off my arse and bought a copy. it will be interesting airplane reading, especially after such the light-hearted spilling open.

next on my reading list:
journal of a solitude the journal kept after may sarton's decision at 45 years old to buy a house in a small New Hampshire village and to live and write in it alone.

irises
vincent van gogh

during a recent trip to the getty i was reminded of why i love van gogh so much: although this work is small and unassuming, his use of color is stunning.

stereotype t-shirt
by blacklava

i went to college with this guy, ryan, and i must admit, i had no idea he was such a talented and ambitious visionary. his t-shirts are not just cool; they're "clothing for the new state of mind."

other badass t-shirts:
angry little asian girls, generation rice and exploding dog.

the original pancake house
yorba linda
i always order the same thing here because it is, in a word, divine. "i'll have the german pancakes, a regular coffee and small orange juice, please." sprinkle the powdered sugar, drip some fresh lemon juice, cut up a slice and let it melt in your mouth. mmm.

recent dining discoveries:
killer shrimp, marina del rey
french market cafe, venice
hide sushi, marina del rey
porch cafe, long beach
