Have a cool summer & K.I.T.!
June 23, 2004Just because I don’t get a summer vacation anymore doesn’t mean I can’t enjoy the season all the same. Jen has the right idea, so I’m following suit. Here’s what I’m going to do this summer:
I will swim in at least three different bodies of water.
I will buy my fresh produce at the Farmer’s Market on Saturday mornings.
I will barbecue in the back yard.
I will keep the porch garden alive.
I will make halo-halo, fresh ice cream sandwiches and juicy fruit popsicles.
I will maintain a vigorous routine of reading, writing, doodling and napping.
I will take long walks, with and without my camera.
I will go on little road trips, even if it’s across the city and up the coast, and sing out the open car window.
I will host crafternoons (and crafternights) and make beautiful messes with the girls.
I will stop asking myself, “What am I doing with my life?” and start paying attention to the wonderful people, activities and blessings already surrounding me.
I will look up.
I will write more love letters and send sweet care packages for no good reason at all.
I will pamper myself with pedicures, long baths and maybe even a massage.
I will find many reasons to celebrate and make up my own holidays.
I will hide out when I need to.
I will take my sweet time and, if I forget or miss something on the list, I will forgive myself.
This is a beautiful list, Christine. :)
“I will hide out when I need to…”
Oh, thank you for that! I so need to give myself permission to do that.
Hmmm… the first thing on my list is:
Make Official “Summer of Fun{tm)” list
Hi Christine! I love your site. I finally figured out what Maganda means – I work with an ESl student from the Philippines and I have been learning a few new words. I can’t spell them however! Kumosta? How are you? and Mabutey? Well and Maganda – very pretty. Is that correct? Also what is halo-halo? I’m going to ask my student as well. Thanks for the summer inspiration!
hi christine! you’re doing a great job with your site! :)
nice list! hope you can do most (if not all) of the things on your list. :)
sounds like a plan. sounds like a lovely plan.
It makes me wish I wasn’t smack bang in the middle of winter! In about the only place in Australia that actually HAS cold winters – Melbourne! :(
i will build a white picket fence AND get knocked up. hahah! truth! xoxo miss you.
that sounds like a good summer to me, I wish I had some weeks off too to do such things.
Awesome list… my fiance just found out yesterday that his job will be gone by the end of the summer… I needed a reminder like this to stay cheerful.
Oh, how I love your list.
I want to take more baths, get more mani/pedi’s.
take drives up the coast!
doodle and scribble more…
xo
Poppy: I’m sorry to hear it. I wish you two the best of luck. Maybe by the summer’s end, something else even better will come your way.
Anne: I wish I did, too!
hello christine! as SARK would say “what a wonderFULL list!” i’m sure you’ll be able to all of these and much more. take out your supergirl cape and start soaring…weeeeeee!!! maybe i’ll try to make a list of my own too. thanks for sharing!
What a wonderful idea. It’s hard for a college girl like me to be stuck on the edge of remembering summer vacation and not [exactly but still sort of] getting it to find ways to make summer special, and you had some lovely ideas.
Ah–what a lovely list! It’s prompted me to scribble a little list in my notebook this morning. Thanks for the inspiration!
It always feels so good and refreshing to read your site. I wish I could carry it around in my pocket for moment-to-moment inspiration.
You are beautiful.
It’s a great idea to keep a to-do list for summer – makes one motivated to really experience this season, which is my favorite. You’ve inspired me to drum up a list for my own blog (http://bexgirl.blogspot.com).
Halo-halo is the best!
halo-halo is indeed the best!
What a wonderful way of looking at life. Keep lovin’, keep livin’.
