holiday gift guide 2008: good things by good people
November 28, 2008This year, I am shamelessly promoting the people I know (and like) and the amazing work they do (and sell). If you’re going to shop anyway, why not support:
Andrea / Superhero Designs
She makes candy-colored necklaces that I’m convinced give you superpowers.
Christine / Christine Mason Miller
She just self-published a sparkling book that celebrates every day. It features her lovely collage art and nuggets of wisdom.
Danny Gregory / An Illustrated Life by Danny Gregory
He says anyone can draw, and he encourages you to give it a shot. Next month marks the launch of his new book which features yours truly, along with some other people I kinda like.
Jenny / Natural Historie
She creates vintage- and travel-inspired treasures that are as precious as their history.
Jonatha / Jonatha Brooke
She tells stories through her music–sometimes sweet, other times sexy, always soulful.
Keri / Keri Smith
She never ceases to amaze me with the wildly creative and thought provoking books she writes and makes.
Kim / Good Stock
She tells your family tales with gorgeously designed and crafted handmade books.
Marcia / Kahili Creations
She crafts delicate and elegant jewelry inspired by her equally inspiring life in Hawaii.
Marisa / Creative Thursday
She fills canvas after canvas with a menagerie of adorable creatures.
Mark Todd & Esther Pearl Watson / Fun Chicken
They always manage to make me laugh and, more importantly, make me want to make things after I get a glimpse at their new art, books or zines.
Mati Rose / Suspect Shoppe
She makes wonderful and whimsical art filled with visions of sock clad kitties and elephants made of doilies.
Penelope / Penelope Illustration + Artstream Studios
She wins my heart and admiration over and over again with her perfectly colored world.
Sabrina / Sabrina Ward Harrison
She lives big and strong and true, and lives to tell the tale through bold art and books.
Sharilyn / Lovely Design
She is good with paper. Her handmade books, stationery and posters are simple yet lovely.
Stacy / Bella Wish
She makes statements — sometimes poignant, sometimes powerful, always true — with her pretty necklaces.
Susie / Boy Girl Party
She is a powerhouse of handmade goodness. Her delightful illustrations adorn t-shirts, tote bags, stationery and so much more.
Ted & Angie / Poketo
They make art for everyday use. Their popular wallets, t-shirts and prints showcase dozens of artists from all over the world (yes, including me and Rama).
Also! A super special shout out to Nest, a nonprofit organization dedicated to changing the lives of women in developing countries. The new & improved web site is a one-stop shop for clothing, accessories, home goods, stationery and more. I am so proud to be a part of this effort.
Feel free to leave a comment with your own goodies for sale or favorite online shops. And happy shopping!
