a sucker
February 14, 2006I can’t say for certain, but I’m pretty sure I spent many a Valentine in my bedroom, listening to Depeche Mode over and over again, eating the chocolates my mom and dad gave me.
I’m not Anti-Valentine’s Day—in fact, I’m very pro-pink and red and white candy heart sappiness—but I do wish I didn’t put so much stock in the day. Some of my favorite Valentines are scrawled on post-its and given to me every day but Feb. 14.
Still, I’m going to enjoy today. I’m going to write a letter to my grandma. I’m going to listen to sappy love songs and sing my heart out. I’m going to have dinner with my boy and thank my lucky stars that being a sucker paid off.

I built my first web site 7 years ago and got 15 seconds of fame. (It changed my life.)
I launched, then relaunched, an online magazine.
I admitted to several embarrassing crushes.
I consumed more bacon than any human should and lived to tell the tales.

my hubs sometimes gets a bit annoyed by valentines only because he feels like a couple shouldn’t just celebrate their love one day a year…but all days.
even so…i still need to hear him ask…”will you be mine?”
