almost perfect scoop
September 5, 2008
I finally made my first batch of homemade ice cream with the KitchenAid attachment we got for our wedding 2 1/2 years ago and oh my gosh. Why didn’t I do this sooner? It was so easy and so good.
As an experiment—because according to Rama the whole fun of making your own ice cream is being able to play—I made Rice Krispy Treat ice cream. In this fly-by-the-seat-of-my-pants recipe, I started with David Lebovitz’s vanilla ice cream base, swirled in some made-up marshmallow sauce, added mini marshmallows and rice krispies. It was almost a perfect scoop, except that the rice krispies were, as I’d feared, mushy. So if I were to make this again, I’d add the rice krispies on top only when serving.
Next to try: Lemon & Blueberry frozen yogurt. And then Salted Butter Caramel Ice Cream. And, yes, maybe even Candied Bacon Ice Cream. This could be very bad. (And very good.)
oh I want rice krispy ice cream.
& i think rama is so right – how could you not play when making ice cream.
