a little more conversation

November 14, 2007

One of the things I missed most while I was away is the community. I’ve made so many wonderful friends through words and wires — and so many of them live across bodies of water and stretches of land —  and our web sites are one of the ways we connect. I don’t regret taking time away from it. I needed to savor the newness of my life with Rama, to take the time to make our home, to make the room for our growing family,  but it (finally) feels good to be here again.

It’s especially important for me to stay connected to the outside world because all too often I spend the day in silence in my little bedroom studio. Sometimes, I have to make a conscious effort to go outside and see the sun. Sometimes, it’s a thrill to talk to the checker at Whole Foods or the friendly local post office guy.

But I chose this fate. Like I said, no regrets. Just gratitude and humility and joy that you’re still here, willing to listen and ready to engage in conversation.

So how was your day?

I missed your words, but fully understand your ‘absence’. I’m with you—no regrets. I’m glad you’re back. :-)

I work from home, so I know what you mean about thrill of talking to the checker at the grocery.

I’m shopping for gifts at etsy this morning and responding to e-mails while watching the news and enjoying my almost-gone kona coffee. It’s cool outside. It’s a nice mellow day.

    Have a good one.

  2. wendy says:

hello friend, maybe we’ll have to do some more brunches…see you soon.

  3. kelly rae says:

i am so glad you are posting more as i love to hear what you have to say. and i know what you mean about spending so much time alone that even the whole foods checker (was there this am) and post office folks (who i’ll see later today) are welcoming companions.
    xo

  4. penelope says:

Yay! You’re back! hi hi hi hi hi!

  5. Julie says:

You’ve returned! I usually don’t comment…I don’t really know why. I seem to stop myself before commenting on people’s blogs every now and then. But with this post, I felt like I should. It’s nice to have you back. I love reading your posts and seeing your pictures.

I went to a gallery today; saw the Andy Warhol exhibit. Had dinner with a friend and we got cake for dessert, even though I was kind of full. But I don’t regret it at all!

  6. Wendi says:

You said “growing family!!” OMG is this the exciting news I think it is?!

I am so, so happy to count myself among the many you have changed right there from your little corner of the world.

    xo

  7. rama says:

OUR FAMILY IS GROWING?! AND YOU DIDN’T TELL ME?!

wait… is this about how fat i’m getting?

  8. Christine says:

Oh dear! Growing family just means the Castros and Hugheses and now, Mackays (Ricky & Brooke got married in October).

Annnnyway…thanks, everyone. It’s so good to see everyone here.

  9. tamara says:

I’m very cold. I never lived in a place where there were snow flurries on my birthday.

  10. Melanie says:

Yay, hi! I’m always, always happy for every little word you write.

  11. jenny says:

christine, i’m taggin you! (nice way to welcome ya back, eh? giggles. check my blog for more…) nice to have cords and wires connecting again! xoxo

  12. Kim says:

I was just going to congratulate you, but I guess it’s not time yet to do so. (: And I think that we all need time away. (:
