Poem In Your Pocket Week: Introduction
May 3, 2004It’s never too late to celebrate a good thing, so in honor of National Poetry Month — which was last, not this, month — and especially because I love the idea of keeping a poem in my pocket, I’m going to post a poem a day this week. Enjoy!
This is a wonderful idea. So I’ll share one of my favorites by Cummings.
i carry your heart with me(i carry it in
my heart)i am never without it(anywhere
i go you go,my dear; and whatever is done
by only me is your doing,my darling)
i fear
no fate(for you are my fate,my sweet)i want
no world(for beautiful you are my world,my true)
and it’s you are whatever a moon has always meant
and whatever a sun will always sing is you
here is the deepest secret nobody knows
(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud
and the sky of the sky of a tree called life;which grows
higher than the soul can hope or mind can hide)
and this is the wonder that’s keeping the stars apart
i carry your heart(i carry it in my heart)
oooh, christine, i love your poem! especially the last lines… wow, very powerful, and true.
Your poem is gorgeous, Christine. (I remember reading it before but I am so happy to read it again.) It blows my mind how talented and multi-talented you are.
the e.e. cummings poem is the one we had read at our wedding! awwwww! almost one year ago…
I looooove that poem. I had it in my wedding booklet to pass out to the guests!!! I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!
I am so glad you like it as well.
reading that poem makes me sad but tells be to be happy…. which is what the poem is about, telling me how i fell when i read it, except for the music coz i cant hear it. does that make sense… pretty cool though…
