Decemberists, I’m yours

January 19, 2004

Nevermind that the the Decemberists make wonderful, charming pop music or that their vocabulary kicks my vocabulary’s ass. Nevermind that they are a lot of fun live, as witnessed at Spaceland on Friday. Nevermind that the first stanza of Red, Right Ankle makes me ridiculously happy and I can’t stop humming it.

No, nevermind that. They have good taste, too.

The band’s sound goes hand-in-hand with the aesthetics of illustrator Carson Ellis. Ellis’s artwork is all over the band’s CD covers, T-shirts and website, and it’s beautiful. Not to mention that her cursive handwriting makes me swoon. If she made a font of her handwriting, I’d use it all the time.

Yeah, the decemberists are very catchy and I bet they put on a great live show. I just recently discovered them around Christmas of this year. another band you may want to check out is menomena, if you are interested in the decemberists. They have been my 72 hour crush since I downloaded their album off Apple’s iTunes this past weekend. A really great band.
