Everyday matters

January 12, 2004

Like several artists I know, I seem to have developed a crush on Danny Gregory and his sketchbooks.

A man after my own heart, he has kept journals for years, documenting little and big details and finding beauty in the every day. He doesn’t just draw–he sees. By that, I mean through the process of art, he has developed a keen eye on matters of the mind and heart, not just of sight.

I’m reading a book that compilies many of his journal pages, Everyday Matters, and while I’m only about halfway through, I already know it’s one of those books that I’ll recommend to everyone I know, artists and nonartists alike.

It’s about New York, love, art, sacrifice and life. It will inspire you. He will inspire you.

  • I run a darling, friendly, little graphic design studio.
I look on the bright side.
I take photos. Lots of photos.
I wish on stars and on websites.

  • I built my first web site 7 years ago and got 15 seconds of fame. (It changed my life.)
I launched, then relaunched, an online magazine.
I admitted to several embarrassing crushes.
I consumed more bacon than any human should and lived to tell the tales.
