illustration friday: play
August 11, 2006My first Illustration Friday submission and hopefully not my last. The theme: Play. The hula hoop was one of my favorite toys growing up (along with Fashion Plates and my Kimberly doll). I spun it around my hips and swam through it in the pool. Later at my high school grad night, I won a hula hoop contest. You didn’t know I was so talented, did you?
This also happens to be one of many post-its I drew for the Post Deux show opening at Giant Robot next Saturday, Aug. 19. Rama and I drew some together, too. If you’re in town, please come by and say hi.

I hope you continue to post on IF. This is delightful. The girl shows such abandon. I think some of the most successful illustrations are when we draw from our past experiences. Nice job.
oh, i loved playing the hula hoop! damn good memories :D
wish i was living in LA again so i can go to all of these fantastic shows! good luck xo
i remember our first visit to toys’r’us where you demonstrated your hula hoop talent.
and i demonstrated my talent for swinging it to the ground almost faster than i put it around my hips.
brava!
