so, i was sitting here, listening to the moody broody album, everything i long for, by hayden, when i heard the word bacon. bacon? oh yes. bacon!

there is a bonus track of what seems to be parodies of cooking tv shows and the first recipe to make is a club sandwich. and he says: "put on some crispy bacon, did i already say--? well, this might be the second layer of bacon, but bacon is good for you."

this just in from kiehl, our on-the-scene bacon lover:
alright kids, if you go to disneyland you must have the mickey mouse pancakes complete with a little maraschino-cherry nose but, please, don't forget the side of bacon...

disney bacon!

at first glance i thought the slices looked a bit on the thin side and wasn't really expecting much. thin bacon is usually 70% fat, too salty and, well, just not meaty enough for my tastes. bacon -- good bacon -- is usually always thick and hearty.

but don't let the disney bacon fool you. ooooh, it was crispy but not crunchy, tangy but not too salty, and more meaty than my taste buds expected. i would most definitely order this again with my mickey mouse pancakes.

i give it three out of five snouts.

i somehow got sucked into the television last night, sitting with some friends after dinner. the show: fear factory, which i don't recommend watching after a meal, much less at all. after one of the stunts, eating three sheep eyes within three minutes, a guy said with a smirk: "it tasted like bacon." i turned to peter and we bust out laughing.

it's the little things, i tell you, that keep me happy.

oh happy day! the baconlog has found its soulmate: donuty.com. who knew there was someone else out there documenting the other great greasy, fatty, fried food of our time? it's kismet.

the site dedicated to the goodness of donuts is brought to us by gayla sanders, the lovely lady behind fluffco and you grow, girl. it's chock full of stories, pictures and charm, and needless to say, we are smitten.

because i know you all love bacon as much as i do, i've added comments to the site. since i will never have brunch with most of you (to my utter dismay, i assure you), we can at least talk about it.

so, let the baconcomments begin.

have i been a slacker bacon eater? yes i have. instead of nice long brunches, i've been eating rushed snack foods in the morning, like nature's valley granola bars and pop tarts (there was also that week-long period that i ate brownies for breakfast, but we will let that slide). to this day, i still haven't bought a package of bacon at the market. the prospect of having it sit in my freezer is so daunting. i can eat a few slices at a time, but a whole pound? i like bacon, not heart attacks.

this morning, however, i broke my bacon-free streak with your basic two-egg breakfast at the coffee table. miss kiehl kept me company. a latté, fresh fruit, breakfast potatoes and slices of toast later, and i was ready for the day.

"oh my god. hahahaha. a slab of meat reminds you of me."

"hahahahaha. yes."

tuesday night, kiehl & i went to fred 62 for dinner and i ordered this magnificent sandwich. the nob hill, as it's called, has turkey, avocado, lettuce, thinly sliced fried onions and, naturally, bacon. it is so gigantic -- double deckered and everything -- that it's actually like two sandwiches in one. the diner is very hipster but not too pricey, and it's right down the street from skylight books, a dangerous, delightful place.
