This weekend, I remembered what it feels like to take a courageous little leap.<\/p>\n
Along with some seriously talented artists and a<\/a> couple<\/a> friends<\/a>, Rama and I are going to be in An Illustrated Life,<\/em><\/a> a book by the fabulous Danny Gregory<\/a> about artist sketchbooks and journals (coming out mid-to-late November). To promote the book, Danny has been doing podcast interviews with some of the contributors. Interviews terrify me, in part I think because of my own background on the other side of the mic as a reporter, so when Danny first asked if I’d be interested I said, “Thanks but no thanks.” When I heard Rama’s interview<\/a>, though, the whole thing seemed a lot less scary and I changed my mind. I told Danny I’d do it.<\/p>\n We scheduled a call for early Saturday, and when I woke up that morning I was terrified again. I felt sweaty and sick to my stomach. I snapped at Rama. I didn’t know if I could do it…but I did it anyway.<\/p>\n And it was not bad at all. In fact, it was kind of fun. And after I got off the phone with Danny, I felt great (albeit totally damp in the pits)! <\/p>\n I am pretty sure I didn’t make a fool out of myself and I may have even sounded like I knew what I was talking about. Although I banished Rama to the living room, he sat by the office door to eavesdrop and he assured me I sounded poised and like a pro.<\/p>\n Whew.<\/em><\/p>\n It had been a while since I did something that truly scares me, and I am glad I braved this one.
