We&#8217;d see each other and stop to chat, but he lost interest quickly, often looking away when I spoke to him or wandering off completely mid-sentence.<\/p>\n<p>As weeks went by, I saw Alec less and less. He was never in the parking lot when I pulled into my spot and he stopped showing up at my door when I stepped outside. Once or twice, I even stomped past his apartment, hoping he&#8217;d hear my louder-than-usual footsteps and leap out to say &#8220;HI!&#8221; but no luck.<\/p>\n<p>I missed him.<\/p>\n<p>Weeks, even months, went by before I finally saw him again, the other night. I was coming home from the grocery store and setting the bags down while I fumbled for my keys, when Alec burst out of his front door. &#8220;Hi, Alec!&#8221; I exclaimed. I was so excited to see him.<\/p>\n<p>My heart raced while he marched toward me. I was expecting another sweet exchange, but instead, Alex calmly said, &#8220;I don&#8217;t know your name.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s when I realized it was over.
