He has suffered damage to his <a title=\"footnote\" onmouseover=\"window.status=' footnote '; return true\" href=\"javascript:alert('he%20was%20born%20with%20a%20heart%20defect%20but%20the%20cause%20of%20this%20recent%20damage%20is%20unknown');\">heart<\/a>, and he will be in the Pediatric ICU until he gets a heart transplant. In the meantime, he is on a steady dose of medication that is keeping him stable.<\/p>\n<p>When my parents and I visited Ethan last night, he was watching Sponge Bob Squarepants on a personal DVD player and begging his dad to give him <a title=\"footnote\" onmouseover=\"window.status=' footnote '; return true\" href=\"javascript:alert('His%20meds%20make%20him%20crave%20salty%20things');\">chips<\/a>. It was easy to forget that he was as ill as he is, until you looked at the tubes attached to him or heard the machines beeping suddenly.<\/p>\n<p>I cannot imagine being in his position, much less my his parents&#8217;. On my way home from the hospital last night, all I could think was, &#8220;What else can I do? What would I want somebody to do for me?&#8221; But my mind was blank. It&#8217;s unfathomable to me.<\/p>\n<p>Today I&#8217;m asking you to say a prayer or think a good thought for him and his family.
